TALES OF ASIA: Day 13-16

What have we been up to since our last entry, you might ask yourselves. You might walk around at home, anxiously pacing back and forth trying to wrap your head around what we'll do next.

Well, worry no more. Here's a recaps.

WE FOUND THE TOURING PANDAS!

... But since I'm more estetically intrested than political, I'm not a hundred per cent sure what they're for, only that they are adorable.

If you are less superficial than we are, you might start here and read a little about it. All I know is it some kind of project to raise awareness of endangered speices made by WWF and french artist Paolo Grangeon.

They were supposed to be about 1,600 pandas but that could rarely be the case now... In the "flashmob"-area there was a stall in which you could buy one of these cute papier mache creatures, so I guess they've been bought while touring through Asia..

We left Rainforest Boutique in tears.

No. But almost. Our check out time was 12 o'clock so we headed to the city by then to see the pandas, and then we went back to the hotel to chill in the pool. The staff was so kind, offering us the possibility to take a shower and drive us to the railway for free. The hours before we had to head to the station to catch the night train easily flew by.

It was the debute of trainsleeping for both of us, and the experience was... well, from now on we've put it on our list of acceptable ways to travel. We had our own compartment, so it was still kind of vanilla, but we felt good, trying something new and expanding our travel tools for the future.

And slept, we actually did. The moving train had a soothing, almost cradeling-like movement that made us fall asleep like babies. We woke up the next morning by a crazy annoying alarm and a thai man banging on our door telling us to WAAKEE UUP, but we still felt energized and ready for the day dragging our suitcases around Bangkok before the 15:40 flight.

We found a hipster place that served pancakes, to Jonathan's great pleasure, and there we stayed for a couple of hours, enjoying the luxury of not being forged in a tiny space without WiFi.

BLACKBOX, served fantastic pancakes!
190฿ THB for american style pancakes either with scrambled eggs and bacon
(Jonathan's choice)
or fresh fruits
(mine).
We both were very happy with our choices.

After having both our nutricion and internet needs satisfied, we headed to Siam to look for a bikini, since Jonathan was kind of tired of tieing my strapless bikini top so tight I almost can't breathe just to hear me complaim about my boobs trying to see world again! five minutes later anyway.

Siam Paragon, for what might have been the 600th time

But but, no luck there.
It was fortunate we went to Siam though, because we thought we would try and catch a taxi from whichever MRT or BTS station that was closest to Don Muang Airport, which happened to be Mo Chit, a few stops from Siam. At Mo Chit, Jonathan and I found an expressbus to take us to the airport for only 30฿ THB, although this option was nowhere to be found when searching online.

So remember:

ASIA TIPS NUMBER 3#:

Getting to DON MUANG AIRPORT
(only airport in Bangkok AirAsia leaves from),

go to MO CHIT and catch the expressbus,
instead of paying the triple for a taxi to drive you.,

Look out for this sign on the bus!

So this time we actually got to the right airport, in time and all, and the only unexpected thing that happened was when I by accident tried to smuggle a scissor through security.

Yeah wild and crazy, I know.

We arrived at Krabi Airport 1 h 20 min later and got a bus that took us to our hotel for 90 ฿/pp, which was good considering it was still Krabi...

We got to our hotel, we got out on the night market to grab some food, we went back to the hotel, we fell asleep.

It breaks me to say this but... God, I hate Krabi town.
I don't know it is my leverage from last time I was here, alone, kind of scared and  mentally broken, but even trying to get a new impression this time around, I still felt like the town was unwelcoming. People either can't speak English or they are rude by nature (or maybe just to the hordes of tourists that invades their town...), but vendors and cashiers seem tired all the time. There's none of that smiling Thailand is so famous for.

But again, maybe that's only me.

We left Krabi town as soon as possible. Our main destination in this province wasn't Krabi anyway, it was Railay beach.
We went down to the pier and jumped on a longtail boat to Railay (150฿).

Taking sneaky photos of people with nice hair blowing in the wind is kind of our speciality

And that's where we are now.

It's really hot though, even the water is more on the warm side of lukewarm and the temperature is around 40 C degrees. We weren't really prepared for that, having booked a bungalow with fan and all.

And on top of that, today we also got burned. We did not even notice it happening, the sun was behind clouds almost all the time - then BAAAM, and now the skin is itchy and the overall body temperature way too high. Our stomages feel uneasy and our brains are like jelly - this is what all the precautious relatives were talking about.

MISTAKE NUMBER 5#:

Going to Asia in the hot season

We are Swedes ergo wikings ergo born and raised in the cold,
but not really good at handling that either.

Lukewarm, preferably all the time, is more our motto.

- We've also found an orphan kitten. She's so skinny and tired and mostly just lay around, cautiously watching the people walking by, but Jonathan plays with her and buys milk for her, so now she carefully lays down besides his feet every time we stay to look after her.
She has a human mom though - a woman at a massage place that feeds her every day and always smiles when we come by and tells us in broken English how much she has eaten.

It seems like she will be fine, but if we had the opportunity, we would take the kitten home just to be sure. It's heartbreaking to see how passive it is comparing to the other kittens in the area, but every time the woman lifts her up and places her in front of the food bowl, she eats. And considering her physique, that ought to be exactly what she needs.

That'll be it for now.

The next couple of day we will just try to survive the heat.
If we have the energy, we'll possibly try to climb down to the Princess Lagoon or get a boat to drive us to Maya Bay for the day.
We don't know yet.
That's Island life in a nutshell.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS ROUNDUP!

IS THERE ANYTHING WE
CAN'T MISS BEFORE HEADING TO KOH LANTA?
