BEAUTIFUL BAOFENG LAKE

WHAT:
A boat ride on scenic lake in luscious colors.

WHERE:
Wulingyuan, Hunan Province of China. We visited while staying in Wulingyuan for our National Park stay.

To get there, we took a cab from our hotel on Wulingroad to the lake area but really, we could have walked, which we did on the way home. It can't possibly be more than half an hour walking from anywhere in Wulingyuan.

When you have this view before your eyes, go left for a couple of minutes.
The entrence is in the end of that road.

TIME NEEDED:
We heard it could take maximum 3 hours, but if you are there 2, you have probably walked slower than you have ever before in your life. We strolled a little and probably ended up being there 90 minutes.

This is a good thing to combine with Yellow Dragon Cave (might also be called Golden Dragon Cave, depending on who had translated...) for a day's worth of activities, as it also is supposed to take 3 hours. We choose to skip the cave though, due to tiredness after being locked in in the national park the day before... But that's another story.

MONEY NEEDED:
Entrence was around 95 ¥, which gave you admission to the park area, which is, to be honest, basically just the lake. A boat ride is also included in the price.

OUR VISIT:
We entered the area and started walking uphills. If you wanted to you could take a bus up and down the hill for another 20 Y, but we felt like using these things attached to our butts and gladly walked.

WORTH IT?:
In all, the trip was very small. The lake was absolutely beautiful, but the entrence fee was quite expensive considering it took less than two hours and really just consisted of the lake and a small waterfall in the end of the route.

We might not recommend it to people on a tight budget - but on the other hand, we don't recommend any of the mayor sights in Zhangjiajie for anyone on a backpacking budget. With entrence fees for one-day sights raging between 100 ¥ - 300 ¥, Hunan province proved much more expensive than any of the places visited prior in the Asia 2.0-trip.

On the other hand, it did have some sights that was priceless...

SUMMARY:
If you have a couple of hours and a couple of hundred yen over, this is a good activity for an afternoon. But it's not worth any detour and if you only have limited time in Wulingjyuan, go for the park (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park) instead.
