THE WORLD'S SMALLEST WORLD

Once upon a time a young man travelled to Canada to visit his mother. This was way before internet, way before dubstep killed the clubs - even before yours truly was born. And back then, times were simpler. People didn't need big advanced technology to keep themselves entertained. And the young man, back in the 70's, visited the tiniest, smallest things of them all and were very happy with his day.
Twenty years, three kids and one divorce later the man wasn't so young anymore. His kids has grown to be adults themselves and were always desperate to be entertained (aren't all of us 90-00's kids?). So the man brought them on a trip back in time, to a place that, despite its name, grown bigger in the last decades:

MINIATURE WORLD

Imagine your doll house, your action men, your bionicles, bellevilles and legos. Imagine them going to a place to retire when we grown out of them. Imagine this place being stored away in what looks like an old theatre, hidden in a smaller alley behind the humongous Empress Hotel in Victoria.

The place has as mentioned before been there for decades. It had some trouble finding the exact year of opening, but since my dad is 56 and he visited when he was around 20, it's safe to say it has survived three decades and is still expanding its collection. Two year ago they added a exhibition with scenes from the story of King Arthur, complete with a narrator talking you through the story as you walk through the room. There is also a historical area (dad's favorite, but his children went through that part very fast...), a fairtale area, a circus fair diorama and a room for old doll houses, dating back to the 19th century.

There's a lot to see and we were there for about 1-1,5 hours, but if you like to look at all the fantastic small details (and there's a lot of them), you could easily kill even more time. The nice lady in the cashier told us that we could go out for lunch and come back later if you just took a stamp before leaving, which is a concept I like. Fed costumers are happy costumers.

Personally, I really liked our visit at Miniature World, and I can say with certainty that my siblings and mother was content too. About that I can't say for sure. We left for lunch and when we came back, he still had his noose pressed against the glass as if he was trying to record every small plane and tiny locomotive for future purposes. Maybe he'll take his grandkids here some day... Given that he had become filthy rich over the night, of course.
