CLIMBING BUA THONG

WHAT:
A three floor waterfall where you can climb all the way through it due to the un-slippery limestones (thereof the name).

WHERE:
A 45 minut drive from Chiang Mai, in Sri Lanna National Park.
We went there on our way to Chiang Mai Treehouse, but there wouldn't be a problem finding a driver in the town that knows where it is, it's quite well-known. Ask around.

TIME NEEDED:
In total, I'll say you need about 1,5 hour - 3 hours - depending on how keen you are on climbing the whole fall. We climbed some of it and switched to stairs when the waterfall was too lively or too steep.

MONEY NEEDED:
When you have paid the taxidriver, you are good to go. There is no entrence fee.
Regarding getting there, we paid 150 baht extra when already traveling in that direction, but I consulted internet about the prices for getting there and back to Chiang Mai again should be around 1000-1500 baht where the drive also waits for you for as long as you need.

WATCH OUT FOR!:
Hidden slippery spots.
Not all of the limestone is 100 % 'not-slippery'. You still have to watch where you're putting your feet.

OUR VISIT:
We got out of the car, we walked across a dusty yard and saw in the distance people sitting on blankets and heard the sound of rippling water.

It was a perfect day for this - still hot, but cloud-ish. Besides the top of the waterfall was a long staircase that was perfect for slow-starters like us.

But we couldn't stay away from the water for long.

And we climbed, and climbed, and climbed. My feet shaked uncontrolably when we reached this part

which was the very bottom. Quite steep, but oh, how beautiful!

WORTH IT?
Totally! When you get over the fear of being soaked, you can do like these guys

and just lay down on the cliffs and let the water get the best of you.
