GOTHENBURGS BREAKFASTS: Kafé Vanilj Review

We love to eat big breakfast here in Sweden, at least according to Ula in the 2005 major-failiure movie The Producers. One of our favorite things to do in our apartment is to have long morning-breakfasts scrolling around on our computers, making the morning proceed for longer than lunchtime.

The most important part of these morning are each others company hah no. It's of course coffee. Sitting with a cup of coffee playing the Sims 2 while Jonathan is looking at Yogcast playing Civilisation (a.k.a perfect nerd-morning) is plain heaven.

But sometimes we socialize - no, really, it's true. And this morning I decided to take heaven outside of our home and into the city. I met up with Ida for trying out Kafe Vanilj's hotel breakfast.

TESTERS:

AND HERE'S OUR MORNING

Ida was running a little late due to her dogs, so I decided to go in as planned but instead use the extra time for photographing.
It was a beautiful morning, bright sunny and the streets yet almost empty, except for early joggers. I jumped of at Stenpiren and walked the few hundred meters to Kafé Vanilj, situated on Kyrkogatan 28 in central Gothenburg. Before arriving, I passed Domkyrkan.

Well inside, I paid 98 SEK for their Hotel Breakfast and took to the corner of the café for sneak-starting eating until Ida arrived. The outside seating didn't tempt me as my allergies had been mean to me since returning to Sweden, so I just had to hope Ida would be ok with that or our breakfast-fika would come to an early end.

(She was ok with it.)

We sat down for a while, both pretty exhausted after having worked at least 5 days a week, and waited until the caffeine kicked in. We were supposed to be at work at noon - we both work at Liseberg - so the usual talk lasting four or five hours had to be saved for another day.

It was a lazy morning, not many people there and those who were was drinking the sunlight like the rare magic potion every Swede seem to think it is, which left us basically alone inside. It was nice - more room for our conversations.

There was an exhibtion happening at the café at the same time we were there. Paintings were hung all around on the walls in the café available for purchase.

We left the café more than stuffed to the brim with food, and though still tired, very satisfied with our start of the day.

REVIEW

FOOD:

Quite a wide selection for the breakfast buffet for such a small café. There's both fruit, vegetables, cheeses, different meats and lots of different bread. There's also a part of the bar dedicated to yoghurts.
Bacon a bit too well-fried ("but that's better than the opposite" -Felicia) and scrambled eggs good, salty. Ida liked that they had herring for breakfast - "High in vitamine B12!"

COFFEE:

Fairtrade. Taste good enough. Lactose free milk available.

INTERIOR:

There is seating both indoors and outdoors. Cosy, artistic, but quite ordinary. Usually, we go here for the food or the cakes. ((They have a fabulous caramel-tart!))

SERVICE:

Always nice and helpful.

OVERALL:

A hotel-breakfast that feels a lot more personal than the big hotel chains but still has everything you might need - just in smaller proportions. We will definitly come back one day. Soon.
